4) After Kentucky left the Union in December 1860, six more states decided to seceded in February 1861 including Mississippi, Virginia, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas.
5) Senator John C. Crittenden proposed a bill that included a series of constitutional ammendents that would have reinstated the Missouri compromise line all the way to California.
6) Lincoln called for 75,000 military volunteers after the fall of Fort Sumter and created a crisis for the states in the upper south.
